INTRODUCTION: Gait initiation (GI) includes automatic and voluntary movements. However, research on their impact on the first step in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and their relationship to freezing of gait (FOG) is lacking. We examined the effects of automatic movements (anticipatory postural adjustments [APAs]) and voluntary movements (limits of stability [LOS]) on the first step (first-step duration and first-step range of motion), along with their early recognition and prediction of slight FOG. METHODS: Twenty-three patients with PD and slight freezing (PD + FOG) and 25 non-freezing patients with PD (PD-FOG) were tested while off medications and compared with 24 healthy controls (HC). All participants completed a 7-m Stand and Walk Test (7 m SAW) and wore inertial sensors to quantify the APAs and first step. LOS was quantified by dynamic posturography in different directions using a pressure platform. We compared differences among all three groups, analysed correlations, and evaluated their predictive value for slight FOG. RESULTS: In PD + FOG, APAs and LOS were worse than those in the PD-FOG and HC groups (p < 0.001), and the first step was worse than that in HC (p < 0.001). APAs were correlated mainly with the first-step duration. APAs and LOS were correlated with the first-step range of motion. APAs have been recognized as independent predictors of FOG, and their combination with LOS enhances predictive sensitivity. CONCLUSION: APAs and LOS in patients with PD directly affect the first step during GI. In addition, the combination of APAs and LOS helped predict slight FOG.

Conducting polymers (CPs), a significant class of electrochemical capacitor electrode materials, exhibit exceptional capacitive energy storage performance in aqueous electrolytes. Current research primarily concentrates on enhancing the electrical conductivity and capacitive performance of CPs via molecular design and structural control. However, the absence of a comprehensive understanding of the impact of molecular chain spatial order on ion/electron transport and capacitive performance impedes the development and optimization of advanced electrode materials. Here, a solvent treatment strategy is employed to modulate the molecular chain spatial order of PEDOT:PSS films. The results of electrochemical performance tests and Grazing Incidence Wide Angle X-ray Scattering (GIWAXS) show that PEDOT:PSS films with both face-on and edge-on orientations exhibit exceptional electronic conductivity and ion diffusion efficiency, with capacitive performance 1.33 times higher than that of PEDOT:PSS films with only edge-on orientation. Consequently, molecular chain orientations conducive to charge transport not only enhance inter-chain coupling, but also effectively reduce ion transport resistance, enabling efficient capacitive energy storage. This research provides novel insights for the design and development of higher performance CPs-based electrode materials.

Fluorite materials have received particular attention in electron optics due to their favorable optical properties. However, further exploration of these materials in the thermoelectric (TE) field is hampered by the lack of studies on their lattice thermal transport properties. In this work, we use first-principles calculations, combined with self-consistent phonon theory, compressive sensing lattice dynamics and the Boltzmann transport equation, to study the microscopic mechanism of lattice thermal transport properties in AF2 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) with a fluorite structure. We investigate the effects of three-phonon and four-phonon scattering and quartic anharmonic renormalization of phonon frequencies on this system. The results show that the bonding strength of atoms A (Ca, Sr, and Ba) plays an important role in the thermal transport process, and the third-order anharmonicity also plays an important role in this system. Meanwhile, the role of the quartic anharmonicity cannot be ignored. Our findings not only fill in the gaps in the study of lattice thermal transport of fluorite materials, but also deepen the comprehensive understanding of the high κL value of fluorite materials.

Introduction: Zeugodacus tau (Walker) is an invasive pest. An effective method to control this pest is the sterile insect technique (SIT). To better apply this technique, it is necessary to understand testis development progression. Methods: Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) during testis development were analyzed by PacBio Iso-Seq and RNA-seq. Results: RNA-Seq library of Z. tau testes on day 1, 6, and 11 post eclosion were constructed. We identified 755 and 865 differentially expressed genes in the comparisons of T6 (testes on day 6) vs. T1 and T11 vs. T1, respectively. The KEGG pathway analysis showed that the DEGs were significantly enriched in retinol metabolism, vitamin B6 metabolism, and ascorbate and aldarate metabolism pathways. Knockdown of retinol dehydrogenase 12-like (rdh12-like), pyridoxal kinase (pdxk) and regucalcin (rgn), the representative gene in each of the above 3 pathways, reduced the hatching rate of Z. tau offspring. In addition, we identified 107 Drosophila spermatogenesis-related orthologous genes in Z. tau, of which innexin 2 (inx2) exhibited significantly up-regulated expression throughout testis development, and the knockdown of this gene reduced offspring hatching rate. Discussion: Our data indicated that rdh12-like, pdxk, rgn, and inx2 genes were related to testis development, and they were conserved in tephritid species. These results suggested that this gene might have the same function in tephritid. The findings provide an insight into testis development and spermatogenesis in tephritid species.

Six new 9H-carbazole derivatives (1-6) and nine previously reported compounds (7-15) were isolated from a fermented solid medium of the Thailand mangrove-derived Streptomyces strain, OUCMDZ-5511, under fluoride stress. Compounds 2-5, 12, and 15 were exclusively present in the fluoride-supplemented fermentation medium, while compounds 7-9, 13, and 14 were newly discovered natural products. The molecular structures of the compounds were identified by a spectroscopic analysis. The new compound 2 displayed antiquorum sensing activity against Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC 12472 by reducing the violacein production and inhibiting the biofilm formation in a concentration-dependent manner. The study revealed that compound 2 could be a novel potential inhibitor of quorum sensing.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral inflammation plays a significant role in Parkinson's disease (PD). Conflicting studies on whether inflammatory indicators in blood could serve as biomarkers to distinguish PD. OBJECTIVE: Include a wider range of biomarkers and control confounding factors to comprehensively evaluate the value of peripheral inflammation-related indicators. METHODS: A total of 80 PD patients were recruited and 80 one-to-one matched healthy controls (HCs). The levels of B-cell, T-cell, and natural killer (NK)-cell in blood were measured using flow cytometry. The levels of neurodegeneration-related proteins in serum were detected and clinical blood test results were collected. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore the role of significant variables in PD. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to assess the potential value of these variables. RESULTS: Compared to HCs, PD patients showed lower levels of lymphocyte, B-cell, T-cell, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio, while the levels of neutrophil, NK-cell, ß-amyloid40, neurofilament light chain, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and neutrophil-to-HDL-C ratio (NHR) were increased. A higher B-cell count was associated with a lower risk of PD, while higher levels of NK-cell and NHR were associated with a higher risk of PD. B-cell, NK-cell and NHR have potential value in distinguishing PD from non-PD. B-cell and NHR levels were significantly correlated with PD dyskinesia scores. CONCLUSIONS: B-cell, NK-cell, and NHR may potentially contribute to distinguishing PD patients from HCs. There could be a correlation between the number of B-cell, the level of NHR, and the severity of PD dyskinesia.

Fibroblasts were extracted from the scalp of a healthy 55-year-old male and subsequently transformed into pluripotent stem cells by introducing episomal plasmids harboring essential reprogramming factors. These induced pluripotent stem cells exhibited a normal karyotype and demonstrated the capacity to differentiate into all three germ layers, as confirmed through teratoma assays. This specific cell line serves as a valuable reference for comparative investigations alongside other induced pluripotent stem cell lines generated from somatic cells of patients afflicted by genetic neurodegenerative disorders.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is an important pathological process of acute respiratory distress syndrome, yet there are limited therapies for its treatment. Mesenchymal stem cells-derived exosomes (MSCs-Exo) have been shown to be effective in suppressing inflammation. However, the effects of MSCs-Exo on ALI and the underlying mechanisms have not been well elucidated. Our data showed that MSCs-Exo, but not exosomes derived from MRC-5 cells (MRC-5-Exo), which are human fetal lung fibroblast cells, significantly improved chest imaging, histological observations, alveolocapillary membrane permeability, and reduced inflammatory response in ALI mice model. According to miRNA sequencing and proteomic analysis of MSCs-Exo and MRC-5-Exo, MSCs-Exo may inhibit pyroptosis by miRNAs targeting caspase-1-mediated pathway, and by proteins with immunoregulation functions. Taken together, our study demonstrated that MSCs-Exo were effective in treating ALI by inhibiting the pyroptosis of alveolar macrophages and reducing inflammation response. Its mechanism may be through pyroptosis-targeting miRNAs and immunoregulating proteins delivered by MSCs-Exo. Therefore, MSCs-Exo may be a new treatment option in the early stage of ALI.

Cumulus granulosa cells (CGCs) play a crucial role in follicular development, but so far, no research has explored the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on ovarian function from the perspective of CGCs. In the present study, we compared the cycle outcomes between infected and uninfected female patients undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation, performed bulk RNA-sequencing of collected CGCs, and used bioinformatic methods to explore transcriptomic changes. The results showed that women with SARS-CoV-2 infection during stimulation had significantly lower number of oocytes retrieved and follicle-oocyte index, while subsequent fertilization and embryo development were similar. CGCs were not directly infected by SARS-CoV-2, but exhibited dramatic differences in gene expression (156 up-regulated and 65 down-regulated). Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses demonstrated a high enrichment in antiviral, immune and inflammatory responses with necroptosis. In addition, the pathways related to telomere organization and double strand break repair were significantly affected by infection in gene set enrichment analysis. Further weighted gene co-expression network analysis identified a key module associated with ovarian response traits, which was mainly enriched as a decrease of leukocyte chemotaxis and migration in CGCs. For the first time, our study describes how SARS-CoV-2 infection indirectly affects CGCs at the transcriptional level, which may impair oocyte-CGC crosstalk and consequently lead to poor ovarian response during fertility treatment.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were promising adsorbents for removing antibiotics, but the inherent poor recyclability of MOF powders limits further application. Moreover, the dominant adsorption mechanisms and their quantitative assessment are less studied. Here, ultrahigh adsorption capacities of 821.51 and 931.87 mg g-1 for tetracycline (TC) and oxytetracycline (OTC), respectively, were realised by a novel adsorbents (biochar loaded with MIL-88B(Fe), denoted as BC@MIL-88B(Fe)), which were further immobilised in a 3D porous gelatin (GA) substrate. The obtained BCM/GA200 showed superior adsorption performance under wide pH ranges and under the interference of humic acid. Moreover, it can survive >8 cycles and even maintain high adsorption efficiency in different actual water samples. Notably, BCM/GA200 can selectively remove tetracyclines in a multivariate system containing other kinds of antibiotics and from a dynamic adsorption system. Most importantly, the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, 2D Fourier transform infrared correlation spectroscopy (2D-FTIR-COS) and density functional theory techniques revealed that (1) for TC adsorption, at pH < 4.0, the contribution of complexation was 25 %-45 %, whereas pore filling and hydrogen bonding accounted for 39 %-72 % of the total uptake. At 4.0 < pH < 10.0, the contribution of complexation increased to 60 %-82 %, whereas electrostatic attraction and π-π interaction were 4 %-13 % and 2 %-10 %, respectively. (2) For OTC adsorption, complexation was dominant at 3.0 < pH < 10.0, accounting for 55 %-86 % of the total uptake, and electrostatic attraction and π-π interactions caused 3 %-10 % and 3 %-15 %, respectively. (3) At pH > 10.0, pore filling dominated TC and OTC adsorption. Finally, the reaction sequences of the main adsorption mechanisms were also probed by 2D-FTIR-COS. This work solves the poor recyclability of MOF powders and provides a mechanistic insight into antibiotic removal by MOFs.

The plant cuticle is essential in plant defense against biotic and abiotic stresses. To systematically elucidate the genetic architecture of maize (Zea mays L.) cuticular wax metabolism, 2 cuticular wax-related traits, the chlorophyll extraction rate (CER) and water loss rate (WLR) of 389 maize inbred lines, were investigated and a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed using 1.25 million single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). In total, 57 nonredundant quantitative trait loci (QTL) explaining 5.57% to 15.07% of the phenotypic variation for each QTL were identified. These QTLs contained 183 genes, among which 21 strong candidates were identified based on functional annotations and previous publications. Remarkably, 3 candidate genes that express differentially during cuticle development encode ß-ketoacyl-CoA synthase (KCS). While ZmKCS19 was known to be involved in cuticle wax metabolism, ZmKCS12 and ZmKCS3 functions were not reported. The association between ZmKCS12 and WLR was confirmed by resequencing 106 inbred lines, and the variation of WLR was significant between different haplotypes of ZmKCS12. In this study, the loss-of-function mutant of ZmKCS12 exhibited wrinkled leaf morphology, altered wax crystal morphology, and decreased C32 wax monomer levels, causing an increased WLR and sensitivity to drought. These results confirm that ZmKCS12 plays a vital role in maize C32 wax monomer synthesis and is critical for drought tolerance. In sum, through GWAS of 2 cuticular wax-associated traits, this study reveals comprehensively the genetic architecture in maize cuticular wax metabolism and provides a valuable reference for the genetic improvement of stress tolerance in maize.

Zika virus (ZIKV) infection caused neurological complications and male infertility, leading to the accumulation of antigen-specific immune cells in immune-privileged organs (IPOs). Thus, it is important to understand the immunological responses to ZIKV in IPOs. We extensively investigated the ZIKV-specific T cell immunity in IPOs in Ifnar1-/- mice, based on an immunodominant epitope E294-302 tetramer. The distinct kinetics and functions of virus-specific CD8+ T cells infiltrated into different IPOs were characterized, with late elevation in the brain and spinal cord. Single epitope E294-302-specific T cells can account for 20-60% of the total CD8+ T cells in the brain, spinal cord, and testicle and persist for at least 90 days in the brain and spinal cord. The E294-302-specific TCRαßs within the IPOs are featured with the majority of clonotypes utilizing TRAV9N-3 paired with diverse TRBV chains, but with distinct αß paired clonotypes in 7 and 30 days post-infection. Specific chemokine receptors, Ccr2 and Ccr5, were selectively expressed in the E294-302-specific CD8+ T cells within the brain and testicle, indicating an IPO-oriented migration of virus-specific CD8+ T cells after infection. Overall, this study adds to the understanding of virus-specific CD8+ T cell responses for controlling and clearing ZIKV infection in IPOs.IMPORTANCEThe immune-privileged organs (IPOs), such as the central nervous system and testicles, presented pathogenicity and inflammation after Zika virus (ZIKV) infection with infiltrated CD8+ T cells. Our data show that CD8+ T cells keep up with virus increases and decreases in immune-privileged organs. Furthermore, our study provides the first ex vivo comparative analyses of the composition and diversity related to TCRα/ß clonotypes across anatomical sites and ZIKV infection phases. We show that the vast majority of TCRα/ß clonotypes in tissues utilize TRAV9N-3 with conservation. Specific chemokine expression, including Ccr2 and Ccr5, was found to be selectively expressed in the E294-302-specific CD8+ T cells within the brain and testicle, indicating an IPO-oriented migration of the virus-specific CD8+ T cells after the infection. Our study adds insights into the anti-viral immunological characterization and chemotaxis mechanism of virus-specific CD8+ T cells after ZIKV infection in different IPOs.

The clinical effect of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation remains unclear. Herein, we aim to investigate whether a COVID-19 history adversely affect female pregnancy outcomes after frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET). This prospective cohort study enrolled 230 women who underwent FET cycles from December 2022 to April 2023 in an academic fertility center. Based on the history of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection before FET, women were divided into the infected group (n = 136) and the control group (n = 94). The primary outcome was the clinical pregnancy rate per cycle. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to adjust for potential confounders, while subgroup analysis and restricted cubic splines were used to depict the effect of postinfection time interval on FET. The results showed that the clinical pregnancy rate was 59.6% in the infected group and 63.9% in the control group (p = 0.513). Similarly, the two groups were comparable in the rates of biochemical pregnancy (69.1% vs. 76.6%; p = 0.214) and embryo implantation (51.7% vs. 54.5%; p = 0.628). After adjustment, the nonsignificant association remained between prior infection and clinical pregnancy (OR = 0.78, 95% CI: 0.42-1.46). However, the odds for clinical pregnancy were significantly lower in the ≤30 days subgroup (OR = 0.15, 95% CI: 0.03-0.77), while no statistical significance was detected for 31-60 days and >60 days subgroups compared with the uninfected women. In conclusion, our findings suggested that SARS-CoV-2 infection in women had no significant effect on subsequent FET treatment overall, but pregnancy rates tended to be decreased if vitrified-thawed embryos were transferred within 30 days after infection. A 1-month postponement should be rationally recommended, while further studies with larger sample groups and longer follow-up periods are warranted for confirmation.

A thorough understanding of the degradation of chemical biomarkers in wastewater after the sampling is critical in the surveillance of illicit drug use based on the back-calculation technique. Herein, three temperatures, eight groups of matrices, and acidification were applied to simulate the preservation condition of 21 illicit drugs, their metabolites, and cotinine for a 240-day stability study. It was proved that the temperature, matrices, and acidification play vital roles in their stability in wastewater. Most of them demonstrated high stability (transformation rates < 20%) during room temperature for 45 days, and the transformation rates decreased while the storage temperature reduced. The stability of the target compounds such as cocaine (COC), 6-monoacetylmorphine (6-MAM), and amphetamine (AM) is influenced by matrices. Acidification prevented the majority of analytes from transforming, making it a feasible solution for preservation after sampling. A model that combined the effects of temperature and matrix was developed to back-calculate the concentration of target compounds during the postsampling process. The feasibility of this model was validated by correcting the loss of COC and 6-MAM from 24.2% and 16.2% to 2.98% and 2.77%. This study simulated a typical large-scale sampling and storage scenario. The effect of the temperature, pH, and matrix on in-sample stability and the postsampling analysis of selected target compounds was investigated for the first time in this study.

Porous carbon materials with nitrogen-coordinated transition metal active sites have been widely regarded as appealing alternatives to replace noble metal catalysts in oxygen-based electrochemical reaction activities. However, improving the electrocatalytic activity of transition-metal-based catalysts remains a challenge for widespread application in renewable devices. Herein, we use a simple one-step pyrolysis method to construct a Co nanoparticles/Co-Nx-decorated carbon framework catalyst with a near-total external surface structure and uniform dispersion nanoparticles, which displays promising catalytic activity and superior stability for oxygen reduction reactions in both alkaline and neutral electrolytes, as evidenced by the positive shift of half-wave potential by 44 and 11 mV compared to 20% Pt/C. Excellent electrochemical performance originates from highly accessible Co nanoparticles/Co-Nx active sites at the external surface structure (this is, exposing active sites). The thus-assembled liquid zinc-air battery using the synthesized electrocatalyst as the cathode material delivers a maximum power density of 178 mW cm-2 with an open circuit potential of 1.48 V and long-term discharge stability over 150 h.

Genes on the Y chromosome play important roles in male sex determination and development. The identification of Y-chromosome-specific genes not only provides a theoretical basis for the study of male reproductive development, but also offers genetic control targets for agricultural pests. However, Y-chromosome genes are rarely characterized due to their high repeatability and high heterochromatinization, especially in the oriental fruit fly. In this study, 1 011 Y-chromosome-specific candidate sequences were screened from 2 to 4 h Bactrocera dorsalis embryo datasets with the chromosome quotient method, 6 of which were identified as Y-chromosome-specific sequences by polymerase chain reaction, including typo-gyf, a 19 126-bp DNA sequence containing a 575-amino acid open reading frame. Testicular deformation and a significant reduction in sperm number were observed after typo-gyf knockdown with RNA interference in embryos. After typo-gyf knockout with clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR) / CRISPR-associated protein 9 in the embryonic stage, the sex ratio of the emergent adults was unbalanced, with far more females than males. A genotype analysis of these females with the Y-chromosome gene MoY revealed no sex reversal. Typo-gyf knockout led to the death of XY individuals in the embryonic stage. We conclude that typo-gyf is an essential gene for male survival, and is also involved in testicular development and spermatogenesis. The identification of typo-gyf and its functional verification provide insight into the roles of Y-chromosome genes in male development.

Rapid extraction and concentration systems based on green materials such as cellulose or lignin are promising. However, there is still a need to optimize the material properties and production processes. Unlike conventional cellulose or lignin sorbent materials, aquatic reed root cells can concentrate external organic pollutants in the water and accumulate them in the plant. Inspired by this, a new nanocellulose-lignin aerogel (NLAG) was designed, in which nanocellulose was used as a substrate and lignin and polyamide epoxy chloropropane were used to crosslink cellulose in order to enhance the strength of the NLGA, resulting in good mechanical stability and water-oil amphiphilic properties. In practical applications, the organic membrane on the NLAG can transport organic pollutants from water to the NLAG, where they are immobilized. This is evidenced by the fact that the aerogel can remove more than 93% of exogenous phenol within a few minutes, highly enriching it inside. In addition, the aerogel facilitates filtration and shape recovery for reuse. This work establishes a novel biopolymer-aerogel-based extraction system with the advantages of sustainability, high efficiency, stability, and easy detachability, which are hard for the traditional adsorbent materials to attain.

Epidemiological studies revealed deficits in cognitive learning and memory in smokers who withdrawal from smoking, but the molecular mechanisms underlying it is unclear. Here, we employed the novel object recognition task (NORT) to evaluate cognitive memory and found impaired memory and motor skills after withdrawal from chronic nicotine. Myelin sheath hastens the conduction of signals along axons and thus plays a critical role in learning and memory. We found no effect of nicotine withdrawal on the myelination in both of the Ventral tegmental area (VTA) and Nucleus accumbens (NAc) regions, but unexpectedly, we observed a demyelination phenomenon in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) after withdrawal from chronic nicotine. Moreover, we found a positive correlation between the impaired memory and demyelination, and pharmaceutical rescue of myelination by clemastine specifically improved the impaired recognition memory but not the decreased motor skills caused by withdrawal from chronic nicotine. We further found nicotine directly acts on oligodendrocytes with OPCs potential to decrease their myelination process. Taken together, these results demonstrate demyelination in the mPFC causes impaired recognition memory and reveal a potential of enhancing myelination as a therapeutic strategy to alleviate cognitive memory deficits caused by smoking withdrawal.

INTRODUCTION: Inflammation is associated with development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the association of the high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)/albumin ratio (CAR) on the risk of CKD in the general population is unknown. This study explored the relationship between the CAR and CKD and the ability of this ratio to predict CKD in the general population. METHODS: A total of 47,472 participants in the Kailuan study who met the inclusion criteria in 2010 were selected and grouped using the quartile method. A Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to evaluate the association of the CAR on the risk of CKD. The C-index, net reclassification index (NRI), and overall identification index (IDI) were calculated to evaluate the ability of the CAR to predict CKD. RESULTS: During a follow-up of 378,383 person-years, CKD events occurred in 6,249 study participants (13.16%). The Cox proportional hazard regression model showed that the hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) for CKD events was 1.18 (1.10-1.28) in the Q3 group and 1.42 (1.32-1.53) in the Q4 group when compared with the Q1 group. Compared with the single index, the C-index, NRI, and IDI values were significantly improved when the CAR was added for prediction of risk of CKD. CONCLUSIONS: A higher CAR was an independent risk factor for CKD. The ability of the CAR to predict CKD was better than that of hs-CRP or albumin. The CAR provides an important reference index for predicting the risk of CKD.

BACKGROUND: Although bundle branch block and atrioventricular block are recognized to be association with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality, the relationship between cardiac conduction block (CCB) and both CVD and all-cause mortality has yet to be explored. AIMS: To explore the relationship between CCB and CVD and all-cause mortality. METHODS AND RESULTS: We included 145,805 subjects (mean age 49.7 years, 81.2% males) from the kailuan study. CCB was diagnosed through a 12­lead electrocardiograph (ECG). Mortality and CVD events were ascertained through multiple sources, including a municipal social insurance institution, hospital records, death certificates, and regular active follow-ups. After a mean follow-up of 12.5 years, 18,301 cases developed all-cause mortality. After excluding 4443 subjects with CVD presence at baseline, 13,208 cases of CVD occurred among the 141,362 study subjects during follow-up. Compared with non-CCB group, the cumulative incidence of CVD and all-cause mortality for CCB group was 18.38% VS 12.14% and 33.45% VS 14.18%, respectively. The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) with CCB group were 1.25(1.17-1.34) for CVD, and 1.31(1.25-1.38) for all-cause mortality. Additionally, there were generally stronger associations for CCB with all-cause mortality and CVD in younger participants compared with their older counterparts (Ps-interaction <0.001). CONCLUSION: CCB can increase the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality in the general population. Our findings highlight the importance of strategies for preventing CCB to reduce the risk of CVD and mortality.
